Want to be blessed?

Want to be blessed?

Jeremiah 17:7 says, "Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him."

What comes to mind when you think of a "blessed life?"  What about if you are referring to someone and say, "Wow, she really is blessed?"   Do you think of financial status, secure fulfilling relationships, perfect health, a sucessful business...?

As I have been spending time with the Lord praying about what verses to inscribe on the back of the new collection launching at the end of this month, I keep coming back to this verse.  God has really been challenging me to dig deep and think about living a life marked by blessing.

Jeremiah describes a blessed life as one marked with complete trust and confidence in God.  How can trusting God and putting all of my confidence in Him be the definition of what brings me complete satisfaction and happiness?  What about all the other things of the world that bring happiness and blessing, God?

I believe that yes, things of the world seem to bless us, but the fact is that they are only temporary.  When my complete dependence upon God, who knows all things, holds all things and loves me without fail, then I am blessed because the happiness that comes from it never ends.

Jesus expands upon this definition of blessing in the famous "sermon on the mount" found in Matthew 5.  And when you read how Jesus describes blessing, it makes no worldly sense.  But I think we are looking at being blessed the wrong way.  I believe what both Jeremiah and Jesus are getting to boils down to relationship.  Yes, blessed comes down to an intimate relationship with God.  That's it.  If I want to live a blessed life, I just need to make Jesus #1, above all, and my best friend.  And when the storms of life come (and they will) that want to take away my worldly "blessed" status, they won't be able to, because my "blessed-ness" isn't a thing, but a person....and His name is King of kings and Lord of lords...Jesus Christ.

So choose to be blessed today and forever by choosing to trust and put your confidence in Jesus.

XOXO,

Ashley
