Peace in the Midst of a Problem

Peace in the Midst of a Problem

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

John 16:33

No matter who you are, what you have, or who you know, you will experience trials and problems in this life.  It's easy to be tempted to believe that when you are facing a problem, "if only" it were fixed would things be perfect again in life.  I want to give you an encouraging perspective and challenge to think about today...

Trials and problems in life can take us down one of two roads...

Road 1. When we constantly go to God with the problem or during the trial, they can actually lead to a blessing as we learn to fully surrender and lean on God, we will grow in an intimate relationship with Jesus.  We will learn not to look at the problem, but to the problem solver and leave the fixing and details up to Him instead of trying to fight the problem all by ourself.  This leads to trust, hope, security, peace and even joy!

Road 2. When we constantly focus on the problem, it becomes the consumption of our thoughts....almost with idol-like qualities.  This leads to zero focus on God's help, and actually can cause distance and drifting away from God.  The problem becomes like an festering wound...never healing when dealt with this way.  It will continue to take you into even further problems much worse unless you turn it over to God.

The good news is there is HOPE! If you find yourself traveling down road 1, keep the course!  Keep persevering, keep trusting, keep waiting on God and keep focusing on Him.  You will find the greatest joy and gift as you spend time with the one whom your soul was created to love.

And if you realize you are actually traveling down road 2, then praise the Lord for realization!  The first step towards victory is recognizing you are going the wrong way!  Stop, seek the Lord, ask for help, and spend some time with God.  Call a friend or pastor and ask them to help you find your way home.  Spend some time recalling the promises of God in His Word.  Let your heart be uplifted in praise and worship.  Whatever you do, get to road 1 and in time, you will find a deep unmoving peace as you find the One who has overcome it all!

XO,

Ashley
